N.C. man overdoses in hot car, dog inside dies from heat

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Police said they discovered a man and his dog dead inside a vehicle parked near the Petco off South College Road in Wilmington Friday morning.

The Wilmington Police Department responded to the scene after a 911 call.

Police arrived at the scene around 7:20 a.m. and said they found a 28-year-old man and a large dog believed to be a Mastiff inside of the vehicle.

Drugs, needles and other drug paraphernalia were discovered inside the car, police said.

The car is believed to have been there for some time.

Police believe the man died from a drug overdose and the dog died due to extreme heat exposure.
