National Preparedness Month: Don’t wait, communicate

As people all over the country and the world experience the aftermath from natural disasters — September is National Preparedness Month.

The American Red Cross lists three helpful tips to remember:

1) Discuss how to prepare and respond to different types of emergencies that are most likely to happen where you are

2) Identify responsibilities for each member of your household.

3) Practice as many elements of these plans as often as you can.

When planning for an emergency, the Red Cross also says to plan accordingly to if you will be staying home or evacuating, and to also have a back up plan in case you are separated from one another.

These things may seem obvious, but in times of panic these tips can certainly help.

You can find more information on disaster preparedness month on the Red Cross’ website.
