The two-million dollar project to relocate and expand Pioneer Village is close to receiving significant state funding.
The House voted yesterday to give $250,000 to the Ward County Historical Society to move Pioneer Village off of the State Fairgrounds by the June deadline set by the State Fair.
If the bill becomes law, $100,000 of that money would come from the State Fair’s operating funds.
The president of the historical society says the funds from the state would make it possible to move the large buildings to Burlington, where a new Pioneer Village is planned.
(David Leite, Ward Co. Historical Society President) “It’s enough to move the buildings and put them up on blocks at the site and then we’re going to have to continue raising funds and go from there.”
Leite says the group needs to raise more than one-and-a-half million dollars more to complete the project with foundations for the buildings and other site work to create the new Pioneer Village.
