The Minot Curling Club has success stories that have traveled all over the world.

Alexus Arthur is in Minot to tell us more.

Last year, the USA curling team traveled to Russia to compete at the worlds competition.

But before, there was team USA there was a Team Washington that consists of four players.

I learned that one of those players is from Minot, North Dakota.

(Mac Guy, Curling Player) “It’s one of the best kept secrets in Minot.”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “Curling is the name of the game.”

(Mac Guy, Curling Player) “They each get 8 shots every end and it’s up to you to make those shots.”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “Mac Guy is originally from North Dakota. He got interested in curling when he was 12 years old at school in Des Lacs Burlington.”

(Mac Guy, Curling Player) “We had an unit in physical education on it.”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “After that unit, he joined the Minot Curling Club.”

(Mac Guy, Curling Player) “Everything that I’ve learned here you know I’ve taken to you know higher competitive levels.”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “He’s even taken his coach from when he was kid to the worlds tournament.”

(Bob Walsted, Coach) “Learned about curling right here at the Minot Curling Club.”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “Coach Walsted has seen Mac grow up with the sport and is honored to be a part of the journey.”

(Bob Walsted, Coach) “It’s great to have a hand in something like that.”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “When Mac gets out on the ice and prepares to curl, every player can guess where he’s from.”

(Mac Guy, Curling Player) “North Dakotan’s have a traditionally a very unique delivery style call the tuck slide. You’ll see a lot more people sliding on their toe.”

(Mac Guy, Curling Player) “When I first slide out they say are you from North Dakota?”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “Even when he competes across the world, he still represents our home state.”

(Mac Guy, Curling Player) “I wouldn’t be the curler I am today without all the help from you know from growing from people in Minot.”

(Bob Walsted, Coach) “He’s gone the distance. He’s put a lot into it and he’s gotten a lot back.”

(Alexus Arthur, KX News) “Curling might have been Minot’s best kept secret before, but now it’s one of Minot’s best success stories.”

The other team players are from Alberta, Canada, Wisconsin, and Washington.

They will spend time in Minot preparing for Nationals in Williston next week.

Thanks Alexus.
