The North Dakota Department of Transportation has closed Highway 1806 due to a large group of protesters blocking the north and south bound lanes north of the protest camps.

Around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, protesters moved hay bales, rocks, tree stumps and other items onto the highway creating a makeshift roadblock.

A new traffic control point is in place at Highway 1806 and Morton County Road 138.

Drivers should use Highway 6 if traveling south.

Highway 1806 is only open for local traffic.
