NDGA Junior Championship recap

Some of the state’s best golfers were hard at work at the opening round of the North Dakota State Junior Championships at Riverwood.

The boys 16-18 division helped kick the day off. Bismarck’s Carter Klein found himself in a little trouble on 16, and things got worse when he hit a flyer. He would bogey the hole.

On the same hole, Jackson Ward attempted a birdie putt which ended up just off track. Ward would par the hole.

Then Michael Schmidt came next, and he succeeded in saving par from four feet out.

At the end of the day, Joey Wagner led the pack after shooting an even par, with Jackson Ward one shot behind him.

As for the girls, Sydney Smith topped the leaderboard after a plus-10 day, with Abby Schmidt and Payton Roehrich tied for second at plus-16.

The final day of the competition is tomorrow.
