Bismarck – The fight to protect you against unwanted robocalls has taken another step forward.

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, along with 34 other Attorneys General across the county– have all sent documents to the F-C-C, requesting the commission create new rules to fight robocalls.

The new rules would allow telephone service providers to identify and block illegal robocalls being made to North Dakotans and other people across the country.

The rules will also help telephone service providers identify the bogus callers, even if they are coming from legitimate numbers.

The Attorney General’s office tells us scammers are always finding a new way to scam you.

“One of the things we’re seeing now is the neighbor spoofing where the scammers or callers can make it appear that the number calling us is from the 701 area code in North Dakota when it really is not” said Parell Grossman with the Attorney Generals Office.

Minnesota and Montana are also included.

If you think a call doesn’t seem legit, your urged to hang up the phone before answering any personal questions.
