New Addition at DLB High School

One hundred students who had been attending class in Burlington have officially made the change to Des Lacs Burlington High School.

(Katelynn Berg, 7th Grade) “For some people it was nerve-wracking but for me, I was excited. I was ready to come up here because it’s so nice and a great learning environment for everybody.”
The expansion at the high school moves 7th and 8th graders here – to Des Lacs where the school that had been grades 9 through 12, now holds 7th and 8th graders too.
(Christopher Bachmeier, Superintendent) “We added six new classrooms. We added a new lunchroom and gymnasium. In Burlington, we’re going to completely renovate that school this summer. It’s almost like two different schools being built.”

The upgrade gives the school a modern look and something to be excited about.

(Christopher Bachmeier, Superintendent) “I’ve never seen so many kids with cell phones recording their building, recording school, and being excited about where they’re at.”

It’s hasn’t been easy relocating students and getting everyone on the same page but there’s a silver lining.

(Christopher Bachmeier, Superintendent) “It’s been worth it to see the reaction on the kids faces. I said that’s what made all of this work worth it. It’s a short term pain for a long term gain and that’s we have definitely experienced with this.”

This is an 11.9 million dollar project that’s ahead of schedule. The classrooms are open about two weeks earlier than planned.
Remodeling of the elementary school in Burlington begins next week.

It should be finished in time for classes next fall.
