New Bismarck YMCA pool makes splashy entrance

Just in time for summer, Bismarck area kids have a new place to splash in and get wet.

The Bismarck YMCA opened its new First International Bank and Trust Family Splash Center with ribbon-cutting and a pool full of eager participants.

The facility features warm water,  two twisting waterslides, fountains and other water play features.

The project cost $1.7 million, with over $1 million raised by sponsors and the rest by the YMCA.

The center took less than a year to build from the ground up and organizers say it was well worth the wait.

What’s the initial reaction from the kids?

“It’s so cool,” said Elaina Richardson, a Bismarck area second-grader taking part in the inaugural swim. ” It is really awesome and the slides are cool.”

The new pool is free to use for YMCA members, and $15 for a day pass for non-members.
