We are learning about a new scam nearby that could make it’s way here soon, and we want to keep you safe.
Officials in Kittson County, Minnesota say fake Facebook accounts disguised as single women are asking locals to send them nude photos.
Once they have them, scammers threaten to post them online unless the victim sends money.
There have been no reports yet in North Dakota but officals are reminding you that sending nude photos at any age is against the law here.
Cyber security expert Jeremy Straub at North Dakota State University says awareness is the best way to fight these ghostly online perpetrators.
“If we can get the word out, we can stop people from falling victim to the scam, that’s typically the best outcome.”
He says another good way to prevent sensitive pictures from getting in the wrong hands is by not taking them at all.
