No lakes remain on state’s blue-green algae advisory

Blue-Green Algae

For the first time since before summer, there are no lakes or dams listed on the state Health Department’s list of blue-green algae advisories.

Blue-green algae can produce cyanotoxins which may cause serious health effects in both people and animals.

Homme Dam in Walsh County was removed from the list today, and the Division of Water Quality reports, “there are no lakes in the state currently under advisories or warnings.”

At one point during summer, a dozen lakes and dams were on the list.

A link to a pdf of the full advisory report has been posted on the Health Department’s Facebook page, however the link appears broken at this time.
