North Dakota is “Brent Strong”

In tough times.. communities come together.
Malique Rankin tells us the story of St. Mary’s boys basketball coach..and his battle off the court.

On January 25th.. Brent Dekok’s world turned upside down.

Brent Dekok: “9:00 in the morning, 9:30, between that time I had a seizure. Passed out, hit my head. At that point [I] was taken to the emergency room.”

The doctors discovered two tumors, one in Dekok’s head, the other in his chest.
And just a week ago.. Dekok had brain surgery to remove one of the tumors.

Tuesday was Brent’s first night back.. coaching his boys.

Brent Dekok: “15 young men showed up in my hospital room with a signed basketball that night.”

Along with his team.. he’s got the western half of the state rallying behind him.

Malique Rankin: “There’s 10 varsity teams in the WDA, and until the season ends.. each player will be wearing the “Brent Strong” warm up jerseys as a show of support.”

Brent Dekok: “It’s been an unbelievable outpouring of support, of love, and most importantly, is of prayers.”

Right now.. Brent Dekok’s tumor is being biopsied so that the proper course of action can be decided by his doctors.

He says it could be chemo or radiation treatments.. or even another surgery.
