Cybersecurity is a top priority this year in North Dakota.

Our state IT Department requested 21 million dollars from the 2019 budget, for updated software and for 37 new full time employees.

In Governor Burgum’s budget proposal released last week, he recommended 16.36 million dollars for the IT Department to use toward beefing up the state’s cybersecurity mission.

He also proposed the department add 17 new employees, versus the requested 37.

We spoke to ITD’s cybersecurity officials, and they say they are pleased with the Governor’s proposal.

We’ll find out during the 2019 legislative session, if North Dakota lawmakers agree, and ultimately approve the cybersecurity budget.
