Oklahoma’s Rowdiest Export and 14-time Entertainer of the year…
His name is John Payne.
Better known as the One Arm Bandit.
The name explains itself after he was shocked with 7200 volts.
“Burnt the fingers off of this hand and then I was able to fall 25 feet to my death,” says Payne.
Payne says he was dead for minutes before he was revived.
And since he’s already been there once… he decided might as well cheat death for a living.
Payne now puts on rodeo shows with some of the biggest and most dangerous animals the wild west has to offer.
“A long time ago before rodeo was even a sport it was the wild west show and you never had a wild west show without a buffalo in it,” says Payne.
He’s been traveling for decades around the country doing his act.
Now to Bismarck… for the North Dakota Rodeo.
“Well we are going to be excited. It’s going to be wild and western… He’s a character as you can tell,” says Jerry Doan, Chairman of North Dakota Rodeo Association Finals.
There isn’t any slowing down for Payne.
He says it keeps him 63 years young.
“All you have to do to enjoy your gray hair and your wrinkles is just get killed once. You’ll be glad to see it from then on,” says Payne.
He says if he would have known he would have this much fun, he would have gotten rid of his arm a long time ago.
If you’d like to catch a glimpse of the One Arm Bandit’s show, the North Dakota Rodeo will be this Friday and Saturday at the Event Center.
