One city is one step closer to repealing their pit bull ban.
Minot’s animal ordinance committee would like to replace their ban with a dangerous animal ordinance.
Meaning the city will no longer punish owners for owning a specific breed of dog, like a pit bull.
Instead it will create a list of animals considered dangerous due to witnessed bad behavior.
“The city doesn’t have the proper tools to clearly identify correctly which animal is which and so as a result they would like to see us address that in a way that is a little more comprehensive in looking at all dogs have the potential of possibly biting and being dangerous and being vicious and being a nuisance,” said city alderman Shannon Straight.
The city council will consider the new proposal next month.
