Overdose Deaths Decrease Statewide

Overdose deaths in North Dakota decreased in the last year. 

According to the CDC, drug overdose deaths in the state fell by 13.2% to 68 deaths in 2017. 

A record 77 deaths were reported in 2016. 

Despite the decrease, this is still triple the amount of overdose deaths recorded five years ago. 

However, the North Dakota rate of overdose deaths for every 100,000 residents remains among the lowest in the nation at 9.2. 

North Dakota’s Department of Human Services attributes the decrease to prevention programs being put in place across the state.
