Governor Burgum’s budget recommendation includes five million dollars for improvements at the state’s namesake, the International Peace Garden.
CEO Tim Chapman says the money would be used to expand and update the conservatory that houses the Cactus Garden, cafeteria, souvenir shop, and meeting spaces.
There would also be projects around the park to enhance the atmosphere.
He says the five million dollars would only come to the Garden if it is matched by funds from Canada.
(Tim Chapman, International Peace Garden CEO) “Hopefully we can get a bit more support and people will see the importance of this great institution in taking it to the next level and being a place where people in the state can be proud. It’s the Peace Garden State and the Peace Garden is still here and only getting better each year.”
Chapman says a replacement for the peace towers that were deteriorating and were demolished recently is not at the top of the list for improvements.
He says the cost is prohibitive right now.
