Thousands of people signed an online petition to merge North and South Dakota into one state.
The petition – made on change.org this weekend – wants to call the two states “Mega-Kota.”
Its organizer, Dillan Stewart, says it will get sent to President Trump, now that it’s surpassed its goal of 2,500.
Many of its signers made comments like, “How can we be called the United States if some of our states are divided in half?”
We asked some locals what they think.
One long-time North Dakotan doesn’t think it’s even feasible.
“You know, businesses merge all the time. Would it be a similar feat? Hard to say. But I’d rather see them separate,” said Dean Ludwig of West Fargo.
Right now, the petition has over 3,000 signatures.
