The Souris River Joint Board is asking local counties to agree to take the deed to properties the board acquires through its STARR program.
STARR stands for Structure Acquisition, Relocation, and Ring-dike.
The program is in the process of working with about 100 landowners along the river to protect structures on their property.
But Ryan Ackerman told commissioners today some non-agricultural owners along the river are asking the Board to buy their homes.
Ackerman says the plan would be to buy the home and property, remove the structure, and turn the land over to the county.
Commissioners voted to discuss the plan further at their next meeting in two weeks.
