Starting tomorrow, Bismarck’s weather radar may look a little black the next 5 days. It’s because of a planned outage.
The national weather service is preforming some upgrades to the outdated system. It’s purpose is to keep everything up and running into the 2030’s. Repairs are happening all over the U.S. But even though the radar will be unavailable, it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s reason to worry.
“We have a lot of ways to work around that. We have obviously satellite. We have service observations, webcams, we can call spotters if we need. So, we have a lot of other data streams that we can adapt to even if we’re missing the Bismarck radar,” said meteorologist Patrick Ayd.
The Minot area is expected to undergo the same upgrades starting next week.
