The basketball madness has officially started at the MSU Dome.
There’s many players from all over the state as well as their fans.
Nathalie Gomez joins us now to tell us about one of those fans in the crowd, Nathalie?
Lauren and Chad, earlier this week we reported on the Powers Lake team finally being here after 80 years, and with them came the whole town of Powers Lake to cheer them on.
One of those people in the stands is their former P.E. teacher Scott Kirchman.
Right now he’s battling a fight no one wants to battle ever, in June Scott was diagnosed with Lung cancer.
This forced him to move back home to Omaha, Nebraska and he’s currently not teaching.
Scott is undergoing Chemotherapy and hoping to beat the cancer.
But cancer didn’t stop him from coming to cheer on his team.
He flew in to Minot to be with his students for the tournament.
“I love my community I wish I could still be there –and these boys are awesome I just you’re not going to keep me away from here… I felt good my doctor said go live life and so I got on a plane,” said Kirchman.
He’s just so full of energy and life, I wish him the very best.
