Bismarck, ND – The White House gave us a sneak peak at the President’s speech.
We can now tell you more about what you will likely hear from President Trump tomorrow.
He’s set to address about 700 people at the Andeavor Refinery tomorrow. That’s the new name for the Tesoro Refinery in Mandan. His speech will start shortly after 3, but tonight, we have more details about his push to pass tax reform.
“If we want to renew our prosperity and to restore opportunity then we must reduce the tax burden on our companies and on our workers,” President Donald Trump said to an audience in Springfield Missouri just last week.
Wednesday in North Dakota, we can expect a lot of the same.
“Why this is important to working class Americans, why it’s important to middle America, why it’s important to jobs creation,” Rep. Kevin Cramer said.
We talked to white house senior officials on Tuesday. They tell us the president wants to get four main points across.
-Simple, fair and easy to understand
-Cut taxes for middle class families
-Restore competitive edge
-Bring back trillions of dollars parked overseas
“There are regulations and barriers to growth and opportunity and one is a complicated tax code,” Rep. Cramer said.
In an interesting show of bi-partisanship, we also learned Tuesday, Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp will arrive on Air Force One with the president.
Earlier this week she released this statement about the tax code.”Ask any small business owner, energy industry worker, farmer or parent in North Dakota…They’ll most likely tell you that it’s broken.”
Wednesday, we’ll hear more on their plan to fix it.
Along with Sen. Heitkamp, President Trump will fly in with Republican Senator John Hoeven and Representative Kevin Cramer.
If you are looking for more specifics on tax reform, you might have to wait.
Senior white house officials also tell us the president will focus on “the why” we need tax reform…not necessarily the how.
