In his trip to North Dakota, President Donald Trump introduced a new tax plan:The American Model.
It includes wiping the slate clean and introducing a tax overhaul.
With the sound of applause, the president introduced his message to North Dakota workers.
“We’re here to talk about our plan to create a new age of American prosperity by reducing the crushing tax burden on our companies and on our workers,” Trump says.
And our state, Trump says, is an example of what deregulation can do for job creation.
“This state is a reminder of what can happen when we promote American jobs instead of obstructing American jobs,” Trump says.
He says complicated tax code and too many regulations are costing Americans trillions.
But changes are being made.
“We’re refocusing the Environmental Protection Agency on its core mission, clean air and clean water,” Trump says.
And his message, simplify the tax code and eliminate some taxes entirely.
Taxes like the estate tax, which farmers and ranchers like Julie Ellingson say can keep their kids from taking on the family business.
“The estate tax is devastating to farmers and ranch families,” Ellingson says.
Under the tax, many North Dakota families are forced to sell off large portions of their property in order to pass it on.
“The estate tax is the death tax and really serves as an impediment for the generational transfer of family farms and ranches,” Ellingson says.
“What we need is a tax code that is simple, fair, and easy to understand,” Trump says.
Which one North Dakotan says, right now, we don’t have.
“It’s been 30 plus years and the tax code gets more complicated year, after year, after year,” Nick Hacker, North Dakota Guaranty and Title Company says.
And he hopes the president can drive home the importance of change to those across the country and in Washington.
“This is a once in a generation opportunity,” Trump says.
And says his new tax plan is just the beginning of America’s economic comeback.
“We need tax reform that is pro-growth, pro-jobs, pro-worker, and pro-family, and yes, pro-American,” Trump says.
President Trumps says it’s up to Congress to work together to push through tax cuts for all Americans.
