Even though the weather may not be showing it, the holidays are sneaking up on us.
To kick off the season, Pride of Dakota business owners spent the weekend at the Holiday Showcase in Minot.
The State Fair Center was packed with vendors showing what they have to offer for gifts this season.
But, of course, everyone’s favorite part of the holidays is the delicious food that comes with them.
Sonja Stromswold started her baking business, Sonja’s Old-Fashioned Delicacies, 30 years ago, and only uses family recipes – many of which were her grandmother’s that originated in Norway.
She spends most of the year in the kitchen, with a few family members and friends, baking her best-sellers to provide at events like this one.
Hundreds of people were in and out of her booth yesterday, most of whom left with bags full of goodies, and big smiles.
She says that having older, more traditional food is what makes her business unique, and she plans to stick to it.
(Sonja Stromswold, Business Owner) “We don’t do anything, you know, terribly new and exciting. We like to make you think of home, and think of North Dakota, and you know, if you’re shipping things away… it just makes you think of home. That’s why we do the old-fashioned part.”
