The Mandan Chiefs got some baseball in before the rain, but the Bismarck Governors were not so lucky.
The Governors’ scheduled game with Rapid City over at Haaland Field was canceled due to the storms. According to Governors coach Mike Skytland, the contest will not be made up because it is not a conference game.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, hosted Grand Forks over at Veteran’s Memorial Ballpark.
The game was tied at two after three innings, but Grand Forks got some more offense going in the fourth.
With a runner in scoring position, Grand Forks’ Rakeem Wright popped a pitch up foul. Mandan catcher Jackson Zittleman tried to run it down but just missed out on making a diving grab.
The missed opportunity gave Wright another chance at the plate, and he delivered with an RBI single to give the Royals a 3-2 lead.
In the home half of the fourth, Zittleman brought Alex Horner into scoring position with a single down the right field line, and an ensuing wild pitch allowed Horner to cross home and tie the game back up.
The score remained 3-3 into the fifth inning when the rain arrived. The game was postponed and will be resume tomorrow at noon.
