Williston is on the cusp of an exciting summer and fall – and is poised to continue growing with the oil industry.
That was the message of Mayor Howard Klug as he delivered the State of The City address today.
The mayor told the audience the new airport – known as XWA – will be a cornerstone of the region’s continued growth.
City Administrator David Tuan the city intends to use XWA as a catalyst to make further improvements in Williston.
(David Tuan, Williston City Administrator) “The airport’s going to mean a lot for northwestern North Dakota. But it also means a lot to the city of Williston in that the existing airport will be moved and we have an opportunity to redevelop that site. It could bring more opportunity for more residential development, commercial, public space, and really transform the way the city is laid out.”
The new airport is due to open in October. Before then, city officials plan to reveal proposed plans for redeveloping the old airport space.
