It’s the number 1 fundraiser for all cancers worldwide – and this year in Minot, the goals are set high.
The kickoff for Relay for life 2017 was held this evening to plan events for the new year.
This year, the group, which consists of about 300 members in Minot, has a goal to raise 150,000 dollars.
Last year, 108,000 was raised.
Tonight’s purpose was to celebrate last year’s success, and prepare for even bigger fundraisers this year.
One of the program leaders is involved because she has been touched by cancer, and encourages everyone to come out to this year’s events – especially the annual walk around the track.
7 years ago she lost her father to the disease, and says she is excited to see what Relay for Life can do this year.
(Kim Hunt, Fund the Cure Leader) “It’s a very touching ceremony to see. He’s been gone 7 years, and I still, every time I light that candle in his honor, it’s something very special. It makes me think, we can fight this. We’re going to fight until there’s a cure.”
