Athena Square is getting a makeover. Many Bismarck residents know the business block for Spa D’Athena. Spa D’Athena closed after the business owner stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from customers through gift card sales.
The building owner, Rick Becker says he’s renovating the space and plans to open a salon and spa. The space will be set up so businesses can rent individual booths or rooms, offering more variety for customers. Becker tells us he’s making changes to make it clear, this new business has nothing to do with Spa D’Athena.
Rick Becker: “We’re re-building, having an entirely new image, new name, new people, new everything. It’s a great location for that type of service, so we just want to put that back in there.”
The new salon will be called “Tonic” with an open date set for June.
Eat Thai Cafe
One Bismarck business has expanded from their food truck. Eat Thai Cafe opened their permanent location in November, and the owner tells us, with so many loyal customers, they needed a bigger space. The cafe offers authentic Thai cuisine. The owner also cooks and learned how to make the traditional dishes from her parents in Thailand.
The customers have a clear favorite!
Ben Psukhang; Owner: “I check sales every day, and the pad thai is the number one. Forever…
“I want people to come and feel like it’s a cafe, not a restaurant. People can sit here and enjoy the food and listen to the music and see friends. And I want to keep it small.”
The owner says the cozy design of the restaurant was intentional, to give it a cafe atmosphere.
