Bismarck – For the fourth straight year, Bismarck made a list that cities all across the country hope to earn a spot on.
People KX News talked with say the Bismarck area is a great place to live, from it’s wide range of weather, local restaurants and low crime.
But now the region is getting noticed on a national level.
That’s because Bismarck placed 15th on Livability-dot-com’s top 100 places to live list.
Last Year Bismarck placed 78th…so a 63 spot jump is quite impressive.
“I think it’s a representation of the quality of life that we have here in the city of Bismarck, ummm, I want Bismarck to be the best place that you can come to raise a family.” Said, Mayor Steve Bakken
Bismarck beat out nearly 1,000 other cities with a population under a million people and median home prices below 250-thousand dollars.
The list looked at numerous items such as infrastructure, demographics, education and health care.
So why the huge jump for the Capital City, Brian Ritter heads the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce and tells KX News…
“No matter what job you might have or you might want to have in the future, no matter which industry or field you’re in, we have that opportunity in Bismarck and Mandan.” Said Ritter
Other reasons for Bismarck’s high marks include easy access to higher education like the University of Mary and B-S-C…a vibrant downtown and benefits from the oil and gas boom. Residents I talked to tell me it’s the tight-knit community that keeps them here.
“Beautiful city, I moved here 12 years ago and I’m not sorry I did,” Said Resident Terry Twogood
“It’s kind of exciting, I really like the people that live here and just how even though there’s not a whole lot do, you get to know everyone and it’s a great place to live.” Said Resident Camden Salter.
While the mark is High…Bismarck’s high water mark on the list is actually 7th in 2016.
Other nearby cities also fared well…
Fargo was 11th
Sioux Falls was 7th
Billings was 24th
Tops on the list…Boise Idaho
Minot did not make this years list
