There are over 1,800 jobs open in the Bakken.
According to Job Service North Dakota — when the oil boom happened in 2012, employers did not require previous experience.
Now, those companies are looking for people who have some level of experience.
Those job skills don’t have to come from working in the oil industry but can include transferrable skills.
“Say we have someone who’s been in the military. Maybe they’ve worked on the airplanes and the B-52S at Minot Air Force Base, and they worked on the hydraulics. You still have companies that need people with that mechanical experience that might be a transferrable skill,” said Susan Ogurek, office manager for Job Service in Minot.
The unemployment rate in the Bakken is under two percent.
