Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Brings the Dentist to Carrie’s Kids

News

In North Dakota, less than half of low incomes kids have had access to dental care in the last year.

So one local charity is bringing the dentist to them.

Not all kids like taking a trip to the dentist.

But for Carrie’s Kids they’re taking the first steps into a place they’ve never gone before.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile hit the road in 2012, offering free dental care to kids who need it.

The Care Mobile offers basic dental care to kids 0-21.

Everything from fillings, cleanings, to fluoride treatments are provided.

For the kids she helps, Carrie says dental care isn’t a vanity issue; it’s a health issue.

“If you  have to look at paying your rent, or paying for food, or doing your car insurance, dental care just doesn’t fall in that bracket,” Carrie Grosz, Founder of Carrie’s Kids says.

The North Dakota Department of Health reports low income children and adolescents receiving dental care during the past year were 27 percent compared to 31 percent nationally.

“If you have a toothache or your  mouth is hurting, we think it’s just an important part of children’s health care,” Celeste Espeseth, Ronald McDonald House Charities Bismarck says.

Most of Carrie’s Kids don’t have insurance at all.

“Even going to see the dentist , $75, $100, $150, if you have five kids that adds up quick,” Grosz says.

She says connecting kids to a service they need is what matters most.

“Your teeth, your smile, when you see someone what do you see? A beautiful smile is important,” Grosz says.

Through the Care Mobile Carrie hopes to put smiles on at least 35 kids’  faces by the time the week’s up.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile does on average 42 stops a year at schools, non-profits and rural communities and will take one more stop at Carrie’s Kids the week of July 24.

If you think your child can benefit from the Care Mobile you can text Carrie’s Kids at 701-390-3201.
