Roommate dispute starts in the street, ends with both men in jail

A dispute between roommates led to one man being stabbed and both men being put in jail.

At 11:38 p.m. Monday, October 16th Bismarck Police were dispatched to the 500 block of N. 2nd Street. A caller said they had observed a fight between three to four people in the street.

When officers arrived the fight had dispersed but witnesses said those involved had gone into a nearby residence.

Police entered the victim’s home, seeing that he had an injury to his lower back on his left side.

The victim said the injury occurred during an argument with his roommate, 31-year-old Allen Ooyman. During that argument, the victim admitted to throwing a fork at Ooyman. This spurred Ooyman to throw a knife at the victim, causing the wound to the lower back.

Ooyman was taken in and charged with aggravated assault.

While police were responding, they discovered the victim had warrants for his arrest and was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
