Just over 200 people lined up to Run the Route before the big parade. For the past three years, Danielle Turk-Bly has been the first woman to finish the 5K with an average time of 18 minutes.

She started running a few years ago as a way to familiarize herself with the town when her husband got a new job in the area. Turk-Bly says that it’s never been her goal to win and that she joins each year to have fun.

“I love the fact that we have a captive audience, because I know they’re there for the parade, but it’s nice to have people cheering you on. I don’t know, the runners here, in Minot, are just awesome folks, so to run with them is an honor,” says Danielle Turk-Bly, Runner.

Although she beat her own time from last year by 15 seconds, she finished just three seconds behind Valeria Curtis, a newcomer to the race.
