While the flu is on the rise across the country and here in North Dakota.. a less severe illness is something we all struggle through almost every year.
That’s the common cold.
We put North Dakota first and spoke with a nurse about how to best care for yourself if you’re under the weather. If you’re looking for medication to treat your cold, doctors recommend anything with “D-M” in the label to help with congestion and cough.
And that antivirals, antibiotics and anti-histamines do nothing to help you get back to healthy.
She says you shouldn’t let your symptoms drag on too long..
Amy Wilkens; Nurse Practioner: So if you’re just not feeling well and it extends past two weeks, then we say probably come in a get checked out because there’s probably other things there’s going on.”
Wilkens said the best way to steer clear of the cold and flu is by washing your hands as frequently as possible.
