More than a thousand dollars of damage to Sleepy Hollow Theater this summer has led to new security measures being put in place.
Three teenagers smashed light bulbs, spray painted costumes, wigs, mirrors, and broke a window in the theater’s hospitality suite in July.
To prevent this from happening again the park is installing cameras. This will be Bismarck’s only outdoor parks facility with cameras. Money for the $7,000 security cameras came directly from community donations.
Executive Director of Sleepy Hollow, Susan Lundberg, says hopes to the new cameras will keep vandalism from taking place in the future.
“We are just getting the security in now and so we will have cameras in and around every building. We will be able to bring it up on our phone. And there will be light sensors so it’s going to be very high tech,” says Lundberg.
She also just wanted to say how grateful she was for all the donations and community support she has had through the experience.
“We had something that went on the internet and people donated. We had people send in small amounts of money, large amounts of money. It was just wonderful,” says Lundberg. “Talk about a community backing us up it was just heartwarming. Actually it was a wonderful story in the end.”
Lundberg says a new parking lot is under construction for Sleepy Hollow. She hopes that the new additions will bring in more people and keep the park safe.
