Sleepy Hollow Kicks Off Season with Aladdin Jr.

You won’t have to travel far for some Disney magic this summer.

One local outdoor theatre is looking to show their audience “A Whole New World.”

Over the bridge and under the stars, Sleepy Hollow Summer Theatre is about to fill their stage with some familiar faces.

“Everyone kind of grew up with a certain idea of what a Disney princess is and a Disney love story, and [we’re] trying to bring that Disney magic to our audience night, after night, after night,” Jacy Walker, Aladdin co- director says.

In its 28th season, Sleepy Hollow’s taking on Disney’s Aladdin Jr.

And with a cast of kids from 11-15, they’re up for the challenge.

“You all have to work together to put together a show this big,” Callie Stonecipher, Jafar says.

With any production, it isn’t simply lights on curtains up.

“We’ve kind of let our young actors try to feel what their character should be for themselves,” Walker says.

And an outdoor theatre brings its own set of challenges.

“The set we have out here is pretty big this year, with several layers on top of it, so it’s been a lot of outdoor work making sure it’s safe and ready for the show,” Stonecipher says.

The performers are creating a world through song, dance, and bright costumes.

“I’ve learned about what it actually means to be a Disney Princess. It’s like showing different sides of yourself,” Kylee Gifford, Jasmine says.

With a cast of more than 25 kids, performers hope to steal the show when they kick off the summer season this week.

“It’s fantastic! I’m really glad that I was able to find a program like this, especially, right here in Bismarck,” Stonecipher says.

“It’s been really fun. I came into this year and last year not knowing any of these people, and I’ve really grown to love them,” Gifford says.

The hope is to bring music and fun to their community and leave them wanting more.

Aladdin Jr. kicks off Wednesday, July 5-9.
