In North Dakota, law enforcement sometimes requires special equipment.
Like a rake.
Recently, a Morton County Sheriff’s Office deputy came across a hay bale along Highway 1806 that fell off a truck. The bale broke and spread hay along the highway.
The Morton County officer grabbed a rake and started moving the hay off the road.
Soon, Mark and Valerie Luna, driving by, stopped to help with the clean-up.
Then Mary Hoff Graner also pulled up with more rakes and assisted.
It was North Dakota neighborliness all in one moment: A hay bale spill on the road, a dutiful effort to clean it up and a willingness by strangers to stop and help.
