North Dakota’s election systems were targeted, but not breached in the summer of 2016 according to the Department of Homeland Security.

However Secretary of State Al Jaeger says they are unable to talk about the attempt or what systems were specifically targeted.

According to North Dakota’s head of elections, this shows that security measures in place to protect our election systems are effective.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger also said the state continues to be diligent when it comes to election security. Continually updating cybersecurity protections as new means of targeting elections are identified.
