As many businesses closed their doors Wednesday, a local church remained open to help those who needed a hot meal.
Immanuel Baptist church served their weekly free meal Wednesday.
Despite the cold, they said it was important to provide a hot meal to those who need it because the other soup kitchens in town weren’t open.
Usually, their soup kitchen serves more than 50 people.
Today they served close to 25.
“We normally run anywhere from 55 to 75 on a regular basis and we’re here every Wednesday 11:30 to 12:30 try to provide a good hot meal for everybody,” said coordinator Rex Sysco.
They will serve their meal as normal next week.
