Mental illness is a disease that affects millions of people throughout the world but not everyone knows exactly how to deal with it.
A mental health advocate and motivational speaker is touring our area this week – starting with Stanley High School students this morning.
Jeff Yalden has a history of mental illness and now travels the country speaking to students about how to deal with their own problems – and when to reach out for support.
After the assembly, Yalden met with students individually to lend an ear and listen to what they’re going through.
(Jeff Yalden, Mental Health Advocate) “Today it will be one on one. There will be kids lining up out the door. I’ll work with the counselors and the school figure out the grey area that’s in education today. So what do you do here if the parents aren’t reacting but the situation is very serious? What do you do and at what point do you go above them?”
Yalden will be speaking at Powers Lake, Parshall, New Town, and Berthold as the week continues.
