Stabbing Suspect Charged with Two Counts of Attempted Murder


34-year-old Cortez Lyons is charged with two counts of attempted murder following a stabbing incident in Mandan on Tuesday, September 4th. 

According to the Mandan Police Department they responded to a home around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to find three stabbing victims. 

Court documents say one of the victims received approximately 16 puncture wounds and several lacerations, including one that almost completely severed a right index finger. 

According to one victim, Cortez has been staying in their home on and off for about five days, but on the morning of September 4th he was acting strange, was ‘fidgety’ and appeared ‘out of it.’ The victim then asked him to leave due to the way he was acting, which is when he attacked. 

Cortez is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault and terrorizing. 

When Lyons was arrested around 5 p.m. Tuesday, he got in a scuffle with police officers which resulted in a charge of simple assault on a peace officer, preventing arrest and possession of methamphetamine. 

He’s currently being held on $250,000 cash bond.
