570 barrels of saltwater and 10 barrels of oil were spilled and recovered Tuesday January 30th at a saltwater disposal well about 25 miles north of Killdeer.
According to a release, the cause of the spill was an automatic cutoff device failing, which led to tanks overflowing.
North Dakota’s Oil and Gas Division was verbally notified of the spill on the day it occurred.
The state is investigating the delay in filing an initial spill report.
A state inspector has been to the location and will monitor any additional clean-up.
