WDAZ: GRAND FORKS — The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles got the Midas Touch.
As The Salvation Army sifted through its donations Thursday, Dec. 7, it found a one-ounce gold coin in the Scheels kettle!
At first, there was concern it might be fool’s gold, but after a little research, it was discovered the coin is worth more than $1,200.
We met with the Salvation Army today and a representative told us how it feels to strike gold.
“It kinda happened so fast!” said Matthew Beatty of The Salvation Army. “It’s like, ‘Is it real? Is it real? Yeah, it’s real!’ You know, and some cheers in the room, so …”
The Salvation Army said it would like to thank the anonymous donor for the generous gift.
