Student Journalist Calls for Change

News

A Mandan High School Junior wrote an article about the state of the school.

She says she first noticed wear and tear from large cracks in the floor.

She also says the heat and air conditioning doesn’t seem to work in several classrooms in one area of the building.

The school was built in 1957, and according to the principal, they are running out of space for the ever-growing number of students each year.

In the student’s opinion, the biggest issue is the locker rooms next to the gym. She says part of the girls’ is completely unusable.

The article author, Madi Just explains, “You can’t walk in there because of how messed up the floor is, it’s rotting out. And along with the girls’ bathroom up there, which is really hard for the basketball games and any sports things we have going on here because then the janitors have to put up gates around that side of the hallway so no one can just walk around the school.”

The principal says the school board has begun conversations about building a new school. So far, nothing has been decided.
