Survey: Drivers more likely to speed, lack focus during summer

A new survey finds 80 percent of those questioned believe drivers are more likely to speed in the summer and lack focus while driving than during any other season.

The national survey was conducted on behalf of “Hum By Verizon” as part of an effort to raise public awareness about safe driving during the summer,

Other survey results include:

  • 61 percent of millennial drivers struggle to focus while driving during the summer, followed by 43 percent of Gen Xers and 22 percent of baby boomers.
  • One in five drivers — 20 percent — has received at least one speeding ticket within the past five years. Millennials have the highest percentage, with almost two out of every five drivers, or 38 percent.

“Hum by Verizon” is a service similar to OnStar that provides vehicle maintenance and service support and access to emergency personnel.
