North Dakotans are apparently getting a poor return on their taxpayer investment.
So says personal financial website WalletHub, which conducted a data survey on the quality and efficiency of state government services.
North Dakota ranks 44th out of the 50 states overall in the value residents get in state services for their taxpayer dollars.
WalletHub looked at the quality level of state services in five categories: Education, Health, Safety, Economy, and Infrastructure & Pollution.
North Dakota’s rank in each category varies widely:
- Education: 23rd
- Health: 8th
- Safety: 17th
- Economy: 6th
- Infrastructure & Pollution: 1st
South Dakota came out 2nd on the list, while Montana ranked 20th and Minnesota 36th.
The state with the best return on taxpayer dollars: New Hampshire.
