Morton County says river gauges along the Heart River and Missouri River are up slightly this morning from the past 24 hours.

This is most likely attributed to Wednesday’s warm weather and additional runoff as well as increased discharges from Heart Butte Dam (Lake Tschida) entering the Heart River from the west.

The good news further south is that the Cannonball River at Breien is at 17.1’ which is well below earlier forecasts.

The NWS has predicted the river at Breien to reach 18.2’ by mid-day today which is well below the earlier prediction of near 22’ which would have impacted the city of Breien.

Wednesday the Morton County Highway Department and Emergency Management Office established a self-fill sandbag site on the NW corner of Breien to aid citizens in that area.
