Tips for Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions can take many forms, but keeping New Year’s resolutions is easier said than done.

Enter Lorraine Pursell. The life empowerment coach battled depression before finding her calling as a counselor and advisor.

“I just began the path of hope against hope. There’s got to be something good in me. There’s got to be a reason I’m here. There’s got to be something,” says Lorraine Pursell, Life Empowerment Coach.

Pursell says keeping your New Year’s resolution, or any goal really, is about commitment and positivity.

One of the things Lorraine recommends is writing down your goals or positive affirmations on index cards so that you can stay on track throughout the year.

Pursell recommends keeping the index cards displayed so that you have daily reminders of what you’re working towards.

Spend five minutes in the morning and five minutes at night visualizing yourself succeeding or accomplishing your goal. Celebrate small successes and reward your accomplishments.

“And celebrate yourself. And again, be around people who aren’t going to go like this at you. Those people don’t belong around you, ok?” she says.

Instead, surround yourself with positive people and things you love. Be it art, music, or people who inspire you.

“That would be my final word. I know you can do it.”

So whether you keep this year’s New Year’s resolution is really up to you.

One in five people break their New Year’s resolution after the first week. So, if you’ve kept your New Year’s resolution by next weekend, you’re on the right track.
