Today at the Capitol – Governor Doug Burgum signed several bills to vulnerable people and Native Americans that were all introduced by Representative Ruth Buffalo.
One directs the Attorney General’s office to put a missing person database into place that follows along with rules established by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. That database must include demographic data regarding indigenous people. (HB 1313)
The other creates an avenue for training law enforcement on investigating missing or murdered indigenous people. (HB 1311)
Another bill creates incentives for hotels that train their staff in detecting human trafficking. (HB 1507)
Finally, the Governor signed a bill allowed tribal regalia or other culturally significant items of clothing to be worn at graduation ceremonies. (HB 1335)
