Tuesday’s Weather Update 1/10

News

There is a slight chance of light snow showers for the southern part of the state tonight. Accumulations will remain as a light dusting. The big story is the bitter cold temperatures over the next few days. Winds chills have the potential to be nearing 50 degrees below zero as a high pressure system builds over the northern plains and winds will be breezy at times. Thursday night is expected to be the coldest, near 20-30 degrees below zero. Shortly after the temperatures will gradually increase to above zero for both highs and lows. This will go through the start of next week. There is good news as no big snow storms are in the forecast, in fact even snow showers remain small. Overall, the seven day outlook is going to be cold, well below zero, with strong wind chills over the next few days and then a warm up is on the way with sunny skies.

With dangerously cold temperatures coming later this week. Frostbite and hypothermia can happen within 10-30 minutes if not using caution. A car safety kit is also advised in case of an emergency.

Tuesday night, a mostly clear sky in the north and then there is cloudier skies in the south with a small chance of snow. Lows around 10 below zero and winds west at 5-15 mph and gusting to 20 mph at times.

Wednesday, highs just below zero degrees with a west wind shifting southwest at 5-15 mph and a few clouds.

Wednesday night, lows around 10 below zero and winds southwest then shifting northwest at 10-20 mph. A wind chill value of nearly 20 below with a few clouds.

Thursday, sunny skies and a high below zero degrees. Winds west at 10-20 mph.

Thursday night, lows -25 degrees with a clear sky, and winds strong at times. Dangerous wind chills are likely.
